Flight Operations

The Flight Operations section covers all aspects related to commercial air transport operations, including general aviation (GA) operations and helicopter operations. Similarly to ATM Operations for IFATCA, Flight Operations is at the core of the International Federation of Air Line Pilots’ Associations’ (IFALPA) expertise (for more information on IFALPA, visit: https://www.ifalpa.org). This section covers all items pertaining to the ATM aspects of Flight Operations.

To facilitate the coordination between IFATCA and IFALPA on domains of common interest for both Federations, IFATCA is represented on the IFALPA ATS Committee. Similarly, IFALPA provides its expertise on flight operations matters to IFATCA’s Technical and Operational Committee (TOC).

 

What falls under Flight Operations?

From an ATM/ATS perspective, there are several matters related to Flight Operations where there is a need for cross-cutting expertise, and consequently these matters requires a coordinated approach between both ATM and Flight operations experts. Such matters include (IFALPA, 2020):

  • Global harmonized policies and positions;
  • The development and implementation of international Standards and Recommended Practices (SARPs) of common interest at the ICAO level;
  • ATS/ATM matters and Communication, Navigation, and Surveillance (CNS) developments of common interest;
  • Other items such as meteorology and search and rescue, instrument flight procedures, licensing and training, etc.
